These are the symptoms of having dry skin, meaning there is too little oil that keeps your skin moisturised. Your scalp can also dry out and cause the same symptoms.

Dry scalps may be due to different reasons. Here are some of the reasons and how we can fix them!

 1.Extreme washing of the hair

Extreme washing of the hair everyday may strip natural oils from your scalp. Overtime, your hair may be too dry to the point that it becomes brittle and breaks easily. Reduce the number of washings if you shampoo your hair more than 2 times a day. Switch out your shampoo for a moisturising one or apply oils on your hair.

2. Contact Dermatitis

Dry scalps also arise from certain hair products when there is an allergic reaction. This condition is also known as contact dermatitis. Your scalp will turn red, itch and flake after you wash it. To soothe the itch, place a cool, wet washcloth on your scalp for 15 to 30 minutes a few times a day. You may also apply an anti itch cream for calming effects.

3. Weather changes

Weather changes, such as in cold climates where there is low humidity, leads to dry scalps too. Blasting heat may also dry your scalp. To moisturise your scalp, use a moisturising shampoo or turn on a humidifier to add moisture in the air.

4. Switch out hot water for warm or cold water

Another tip to fix dry scalp is to use warm or cold water instead of hot water in your shower. Do not stay under hot water longer than 10 minutes at a time as this may strip your skin of its natural oils.

5. Your shampoo is not moisturising your scalp enough

Your current shampoo may not be able to moisturise your scalp enough, this leaves you with a dry scalp. The most straight froward way to maintain a healthy and strong scalp is to use a moisturising shampoo. We recommend trying the Chanamu Tea Tree shampoo. The lavender extract in this helps to moisturise and cleanse the scalp. While the Tea Tree extract helps to relieve scalp itchiness and dandruff.
